So I've been on a bit of a design and idea kick here lately, can you tell? I've had so many ideas bottled up for so long, that I've just been trying to get them all out before they leave my frontal cortex and I'm off doing something else - which happens frequently for me! :P
Today I'm excited to show you a simple template system that makes documenting yourself, simple, clean, and without fuss so you don't have to stress! It's just you, and your real life- documenting all that you do in a day. It's called "My Daily Hours".
Here is a bit more about the 3 components that this system addresses:
THE SELF | I have heard from many scrappers over the years, that documenting yourself is always the toughest - and I agree! I have always had a very big hang up about scrapping myself. The subject of my work is always about my kids and/or husband - never about me. I find it difficult to come up with topics about myself that seem interesting. It stresses me out - big time! So, in the past I just haven't done it often at all. However, I'm at a point in my life, that I think it's important to start doing it. But I still struggle - not just with the subject of making me the focus in my pages, but with the time that I want to dedicate to a single page about me. And forget about the pictures of myself - that is NOT something I like doing at all! In the end, I am just not comfortable dedicating a lot of effort, time or resources to scrapping about myself in the same way I do about my family. This was something that needed a solution, I thought.
THE HOURLY FORMAT | Then the idea struck me. I'm busy all-day-long, doing this-or-that for the kids, my husband, sometimes, even for me. I'm so busy, that by the end of the day I just want to collapse into bed, and yet, it still feels like there aren't enough hours in the day. I thought maybe THAT could be what I document: everything that goes into my day on an hourly basis, because that IS who I am. What I do for my family is what is real and authentic about me. I'm a mom, a wife, a teacher, a house-cleaner, a working professional, a child-advocate, a doctor, a psychologist, a chef, a chauffeur, a financier, a laundry service, a pet sitter . . . . and the list goes on! I'm sure many of you can relate! Showing what I do on an hourly basis seemed like the natural solution to get some of me into my projects.
THE DESIGN | The overall idea came about as something that would be quick, easy, and incorporate all of those imperfect photos that you take on your phone throughout a busy day. These days, who doesn't have their phone with them nearly all the time and snap pics here and there? So, I wanted the design to be versatile, with a few different formats, to switch up a page, but ultra clean and simple. FOR ME: One of my biggest hangups in getting me started in doing pocket page scrapping on a weekly basis is that I feel like many times the pages can look cluttered and overwhelming to look at. I wanted something that was super easy on the eyes and would make those un-pretty real-life photos look crisp and nice. I knew that a minimalistic feel would be the ideal solution. And I just love how it looks all together.
