My 2¢ | CHA-W 2014 | Trendspotting Part 1 of 2

I'm sorry this is so late, everyone! We've had a very busy week here in the ole Heller household, so I apologize for that!

I started this post nearly a week ago, and little by little I've been adding to it, and honestly I've found so many new (and continuing) trends that I needed to break this post into two parts! So this is my first portion of what I'm seeing for the upcoming year. Hopefully my 2nd part won't take as long to put together as the first and that my upcoming week isn't so cra-crazy!

So let's get started!

What I'm seeing as TRENDS for 2014

BRUSH HANDWRITING / CALLIGRAPHY ................................................
This shouldn't be much of a suprise, given it's increasing use in pages at this very moment, including the fabulous new class at Studio Calico Class, called Life Scripted. I'm anticipating this trend to be in full affect this whole year with many mid-releases and Summer CHA collections using it. Much like chalking and calligraphy were widely seen most of the last year/year and half. The nice thing about this trend, is anyone can do it because of it's perfectly imperfect look. So much fun!

BASIC COLLECTIONS.......................................................................
Next up are the bare-bones basic collections. Several manufacturers continue to create basics along with their released patterned collections, such as Echo Park Paper, Simple Stories and We R Memory Keepers, but these manufacturers have come up with some mini (and EXTENSIVE) basics collections that are fantastic for everyday scrapping.

*DO IT YOURSELF* COLLECTIONS  .....................................................
This is a fun and unique twist on the basics collections listed above. They are being coined as "DIY collections". These are stripped back basic supplies, that you would spruce up yourself totally. No frills, just the basics for building great, fully customized artwork.

CHALKBOARD..................................................................................
Chalkboard continues to be a fun trend, though (mostly) not as saturated in collections as was from last season. With the exceptions of a few collections, many collections are showcasing just a few chalkboard pieces in their collections, or they are altering that trend slightly to a white on black background to provide the same feel without the obvious "chalk" trendiness (like with the Simple Stories, Homespun collection shown below).

PLASTIC EMBELLISHMENTS..............................................................
(translucent printed die cuts, overlays, & puffy stickers)
Another trend which is kind of interesting to me are the re-imergence of plastics as embellishements. This is included in printed translucent die cuts, photo overlays, and even puffy stickers. I do think that the overlays and the translucent embellishements are part of the vellum, white-wash trend - that love of translucency whithout overt transparency. It does seem interesting to me that this material, is making a comeback in these applications, because I remember those puffy stickers even from when I was a kid!

SHAPED ENAMEL STICKERS............................................................
Round enamel dots came on like wildfire a couple years ago and now nearly every manufacturer out there is either adding those same round little beauties to their collections, or they are branching out and featuring SHAPED versions of these cute litte flat embellishments that add so much dimension and color to projects. This is a pretty exciting new product, my only hope is that they don't venture too far from the original circles and small bitty ones, as they have become staples in my scrapping stash and now I can't imagine not having them at my dispense when ever I need that perfect little finishing touch. ;)

METALLIC FOIL ............................................................................
(especially gold)
Last up for today is metallic, in a foil application that is flat and without texture. Gold, of course, is the most popular right now, but many maufacturers are also adding silver and even colored metallics to their offerings. I personally am not a lover of this trend - mainly because I'm not a "bling" type person or scrapper, but I do love it when used in the most subtle of ways. I actually used some of the metallic foil paper from Chickaniddy for CHA projects and was pleasantly surpised at how beautifully it cut in my Silhouette and what it added to my projects that I was creating, so I guess, I can safely say for my self it became a," never say never" moment for me with this trend. :) I do personally LOVE the paper pad from We R Memory keepers of the metallic on vellum - that I will want!
