October Afternoon :: Challenge Monday

Happy Monday everyone! Hopefully you were able to enjoy this past weekend with (Inter)National Scrapbooking Day and/or Mother's Day! I know I did quite a bit of scrapping this past weekend, along with quite a bit of Mom-duty as my husband put together our first raised garden bed for our first vegetable garden (per one of my Mother's Day requests). While he worked away at getting it just right, level-wise (which took longer thank constructing the actual piece), I watched the kids. They played well together, argued a lot, gave each other kudos, and within the same sentence, insulted each other. It was a bit a of a roller coaster, but that's what being a Mom is all about, right?

In the morning they did give me the most decadent of Mother's Day gifts they've ever given me. Usually it's a quick trip the nearby grocery store for flowers and a goodie. But this time my hubby took the kids on Saturday and went - (insert gasp here) - all the way to the MALL!! LOL!! I was spoiled with a L'Occitane spa gift box, Godiva chocolates, Yankee candles and several flower plants! It was so nice to get such an outpouring for ME! :DYourHappiness_OA_Detail1_Ah
Today, I'm bringing you my page created for today's Monday inspiration challenge on the October Afternoon blog. It's all about using those small bits, pieces, and scraps left over from recent projects. For my project I used strips, and punched out negatives of patterned paper as the main design pieces for my layout. YourHappiness_OA_Deatil2_AH
On the right side of my page, I had some large strips with 2" holes punched out of them. I wanted to use that strip, but not in it's original form. So I took the strip, cut it down the center, then put the leftover pieces back to back to create this fun, modern graphic element.YourHappiness_LO_Detail3_Ah

The mix of the horizontal lines with the wave-like scalloping gives this element movement and draws your eye downward to the photos. I used a similar but smaller negative of a circular punch on the left-hand side of the page with some heavier pink paper, again pushing your eye inward from the left side of the page.

You know I loved this challenge when Wilna presented it to me! If you've been following my blog for any length of time, you know I love to use up my scraps - whether on cards to layouts, it is such a fun way to challenge yourself to think outside of the box and use what you have on hand. It's really being resourceful, if you think of it! Gotta love that! ;D Make sure you go check out the FULL inspiration challenge for this week over at the October Afternoon blog!

This week I've got lots to share - including an October Afternoon blog hop on Wednesday - did I mention, there will be prizes??!! Thanks so much for stopping by! Have a wonderful day! ;D
