October is such an incredible month in many ways. Fall is arriving, the holiday cycle is beginning, and it's Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
I'm sure every one of us has been touched by this disease in one way or another - a friend, a co-worker, a family member. I for one, have seen it from all 3 of these scenarios. Last year was the closest it had come to my daily life. My son and I were going to a mommy-tot pre-preschool program when our beloved 38 year old teacher discovered a lump two days after Christmas. She had an emergency mastectomy and went through a rigorous chemo routine immediately. For months, we watched as she continued to come teach our class of toddlers. On occasion, her mom would fill in for her, but not often. There were days when you could tell she was simply exhausted and not feeling well yet still she smiled and interacted with our children and us like nothing was wrong, never once breaking down or speaking of what she was going through. I think coming to our little class was a nice escape from what she must have been dealing with. I can't imagine - with 2 young girls herself, it had to have been just a devastating time in her life.
I am happy to say today she's a survivor. I will never forget that last day of class, 6 months after her diagnosis- and everything we'd seen along her journey during those initial months- how for the first time, she broke down and cried, thanking US all for keeping her spirits up during the long months of uncertainty and fear. It was so touching, and tear jerking. She was / is the epitomy of strength, in my opinion. So that is who I made this card for. I have also entered it into the Embellish Magazine's - Embellish the Cure Color Challenge With Bling and Practical Scrappers Punch Challenge- check them out and play along!
Remember this month, to start the habit, if you haven't already to "Feel your boobies" as my sister, who's a nurse, says! Hope you are having a fantastic Tuesday!
